Tahnai Annis is SEC Offensive Player of the Week

A late goal in each of the University of Florida's road matches last weekend led to Tahnai Annis’ (Zanesville, Ohio/Pickerington North H.S.) selection as the Southeastern Conference Offensive Soccer Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday afternoon.

This is her first league honor of the year as she twice received the SEC Freshman of the Week in 2008. Two other Gators have picked up the SEC Freshman of the Week honor earlier this season – Brooke Thigpen (Sept. 14) and Erika Tymrak (Oct. 12).

The SEC Freshman of the Week is a forward/midfielder for Florida's opponent Thursday - Carlie Banks of LSU. Mississippi goalkeeper Alley Ronaldi is the SEC Defensive Player of the Week.

Annis scored goals in the 86th minute of each of Florida's two matches last weekend. With the Gators trailing at Tennessee 2-1, Annis just beat her defender to tuck the ball in at the far post corner to tie the match, which eventually ended at 2-2 2OT. Annis again provided late dramatics on Sunday, heading in the only goal of the match at No. 23 Georgia to give UF a 1-0 win.

Annis is now in a three-way tie for second among the Gators with five goals and is tied for third in both assists (3) and points (13). She's provided most of her scoring during the league season, as she leads UF in SEC matches with four goals and is tied for first with 10 points.

The Gators play host to No. 16 LSU (10-3-3, 6-1-1 SEC) on Thursday, Oct. 22. Match time is set for 7 p.m. (ET) at the James G. Pressly Stadium. The Tigers shares the SEC lead with South Carolina at 19 points, while Florida is third with 17. Teams receive three points for a win and one point for a tie in the league standings.

Thursday is Florida’s first cancer awareness match and the Gators will wear pink uniforms. The first 1,000 fans receive pink t-shirts, compliments of SUN Sports.

The match can be heard live with Adam Schick and Matthew Stubbington calling the action on AM 850 WRUF or via simulcast on Gainesville/Ocala Cox Cable channel 946 and www.GatorZone.com.
