2009 US Youth
Soccer ODP Girls U-15/U-16 Interregional Camp Schedule Announced
US Youth Soccer Olympic Development Program (US Youth Soccer ODP) Girls
will hold their fourth U-15 (94s) / U-16 (93s) Interregional Camp in
Pomona, Calif., from Tuesday, February 17 to Saturday, February 21.
In attendance will be 176 invitation-only campers. The camp will be a
scramble format with functional training, Small-Sided Games, street
soccer, guest speakers and mini round-robin tournament on the final day.
The developmental camp focuses on Small-Sided Games so that the players
are highlighted as individuals.
"US Youth Soccer ODP realizes the importance of laying the groundwork for
tactical and technical development of our young players," said Sam Snow,
US Youth Soccer Interim Technical Director. "It is important that the
experience for the players be positive and especially in these
developmental camp situations. What our players learn in this initial set
up can set the tone for their future developmental progress."
The camp will cover a number of topics including team defending both as
individuals and small groups. Players will learn to better read the game
under pressure and when to apply pressure including the distance and
direction. On Thursday afternoon, teams will practice getting into the
final third to provide players with creative ideas to get behind defenses.
Players will also be shown the technical service requirements at the next
level, how to create and recognize numerical advantages and combinations
to exploit those advantages.
